FAQS to Indians with work permit VISA in USA

People whoever in USA with work VISA will frequently be judged and questioned as follows.

When will you return? I see this as a million dollar question, for which we generally don't answer, but give more than 4 options, that are short listed from all possibilities. Our stay in US depends upon VISA duration and project deadline, both of which are like Rajini's entry into politics. "Yepo varum, yepdi varum nu yaarukum theriyadhu",(Vandhalum namba mudiyadhu).

Earns Million dollars: We live in a society where many are so judgmental. some people misjudge and  have these thoughts on people in US. They think we earn as same as the count of INR in $. Everyone here dreams for it, but businessmen are not ignorant to do such things. Remember many comes to US to finish their bank loans and live a EMI free life. Of course, Onsite opportunity helps for it.

Spends lavish: True, the cost of living is high when compared to India. We are not an economist, but we know that the expenditure should be within our income. Also we know a little of math. With that we could do a better house budgeting. Simple logic to understand, we earn in dollars and spend in dollars and when we save, we save in dollars. As simple as we do with Indian rupees in India.

Enjoys Bachelor life: There are people who lead a bachelor life after being dad of two kids, to bring a financial stability in family. It does not mean that they enjoy that life. There comes an another question, "Is money that much important than family?". A bitter truth is, for a happy family, money is the most important factor. Some people decides to take family with them to US, that is comparatively a better choice, but savings are lesser in that case.

Not interfered by in laws: This is generally judged to ladies especially who came as dependent here. So sarcastically, people ask, "no in laws with you, so you can be living as you wish". As grown ups and shares equal responsibility of husband, we know how to lead our life with or without interventions. People who understand their responsibility need no supervision. US life gives great power with great responsibilities. Just because we came out of the country does not mean, we came out of a family. We are tied to our roots, no matter how tall we grow. Daily calls and weekly skype calls with parents and in laws are part of our routine. They are always with us.

Free from rituals: The very first thing, we don't find anything hard in following our rituals. We have the responsibility to introduce our rituals to our kids too and so, we celebrate all occasions happily. Starting from kula deiva vazhipadu, aadi amman, aavani pillayar chathurthi, puratasi Perumal, Aipasi Diwali, Karthigai deepam, Maargazhi nonbu to Thai pongal. Apart from it, krithigai and Amavasai are monthly poojai that we don't forget.  I also see people from other states and other regions are celebrating their occasions as we have seen in India.

Does not cook: Even Americans construct houses with kitchen. Only thing is the food recipes are different. Some people genuinely inquire whether we get all Indian vegetables, fruits and groceries. To them I tell you, Yes. There are Indian stores and some Mexican stores have all Indian veggies, fruits and groceries. To people who ever think, that we eat only pizza, burger, pasta and noodles, remember, we care for our health than anything else.

Keeping distance with friends and relatives: Due to time zone difference, it is natural to miss frequent communication. But due to technological advancement, two way communications are possible at same cost only. Ping us before doubting on our love.

Poor parenting: People judge that our kids will not remember any of our relative or neighbor. Again with help of video calls, our kids are familiar with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Speaks only in English: True that we speak English little more than we speak in India. To our neighbors, colleagues and to whoever doesn't know our mother tongue, English became the only language to communicate. But not to the people who could speak our mother tongue. To be honest, we get excited to see some one speaks our language in foreign country.

Kids don't know mother tongue language: We are happy that our kids speak English, a new language. We would be happy with whatever new things that our kids learn right. Many of us learnt English from school and not from house. Many of us learnt our mother tongue even before going to school. The same way kids here learn their mother tongue from house and learn English from outside and they know both as same as in India. Here because of more usage of English with friends and neighbors too, kids speak English fluently. To read and write their mother tongue, parents here put in efforts.

I am not providing any explanation to anyone in this post. I am just trying to reduce the misconception between migrants and their friends/relatives back in India.
I agree that we enjoy the privilege of  living in a developed nation with traffic free travel, pollution free outdoor activities and clean public places. Also exploring ourselves by taking up new hobbies and with the exposure to completely new social environment. This could obviously bring many new things into our life, but nothing can separate from our roots.  We also bring up our kids the same way.

There is my favorite saying: "to people who understand, no explanation is needed; and to people who do not understand, explanation is unnecessary". Sometimes,  giving explanation  is important to us, because, it will bring peace in us, that our part of job is done.
I know, there are always people who will never see your sufferings, home sickness, loneliness and  constantly tell... "Unakennapa jollya iruka" (You are enjoying a jolly life).
It actually hurts when you try hard to stay strong independently handling household, heath, kids and their activities. Remember, not every battle is worth fighting, let their ignorance teach them a lesson.

To my beloved Indian married women in America.... How do you handle these questions?
