Breastfeed till 6 months Kids up to 6 months should be in exclusive breastfeeding. The following guidelines and recipes are framed by Dr.Arulalan and a nutritionist team for Vellore residents. Food and culture are interrelated. They together helps in child development. Only with such understanding, we can avoid foo

nano tale#1

At the end of a long weekend, she is the only one so relaxed on that night. She finally gets back things in control. Still,  she doesn't want to show her excitement to those saddened little hearts, so with her tender voice said those spooky words, "go to bed early my dear kids, Tomorrow is Monday".

Math is not hard: Really?

Image
Math is one of the most difficult subjects to many of us. I liked math when it had only numbers,  I just started hating it, when it asked me to find alphabets like x, y and z. But again I wondered how it is so easy and interesting to few others! I exclaimed at my math teachers who love to teach the subject. Then I understood,  it's their perspective on that subject.  "Your perspective will either become your prison or become your passport".  Still I did not get to know what that perspective could be, to understand that subject. Then I came across a video by Randy Palisoc, a passionate educator, known for making math easy. His lecture in TedEx event caught my attention and I came to understand that "secret" behind math lovers. "To treat math as a language". Yes, the reason why I hate math is, for including problematic letters and symbols to its problems, but then I realized the  definition of its terms has all its meaning. For exam

Discover your origin

A question may arise, why should we know our origin? Scientifically, the DNA quality of a person get transferred in diminishing rate to next 7 generations. Knowing the medical history and character behaviors of our grandparents help the coming generation to suppress the negative behaviors and genetic disorders from birth, either with medicine, food practices and by providing moral values. History is important: Many Foreseer predicts the future happenings in politics, business and even in climatic changes, says that they do so, with the help of history. Actor Kamalhassan, whenever he was asked about his movies depicting future happenings, said " Anyone with history and science knowledge would predict them well, because history always repeats". Now, we all talk about westernization and many of its bad impact on our lifestyle. We also say, British people in olden years did colonization and took control of our country. Now, they repeat in the name of Globalization, keep us

when a mother says...

#copypasted When a mother says she’s tired, that’s all she meant ! She did not say she wants to drop her child and forget that the child exists.  When a mother says she wanted some time alone, just her, that’s all she meant . She didn’t say she’s sorry to be a mother and that motherhood was a mistake in her life.  When a mother says she needs help to get things done, that’s exactly what she meant. She is not incapable. When a mother makes noddles for dinner, it does not mean she does noddles everyday of the week and that her daughter/son is a child who does not know vegetables or meats. When you arrive at a mothers house and face disorganization, it doesn’t mean that everyday the house is disorganized.  When a mother says she’d love to go out with her friends, that’s all she meant. She doesn’t want to go back to being “single/ not a mother” and like it as if she had responsibility. When a mother says she worried or afraid, that’s what she meant! She didn’t say she’s going to falter and

Time to learn our Scriptures - My favorite quote

I would like to quote from Thirukural, which is praised as Universal Veda(Ulaga podhumarai) and universal code of conduct, written by Thiruvalluvar. It has 1330 verses (Kural in Tamil), all are considered as sacred verses and undergone various researches in association with various subjects like science, medicine, psychology etc. My favorite verse from Thirukural are below: 1.   இனிய உளவாக இன்னாத கூறல்      கனிஇருப்பக் காய்கவர்ந் தற்று. Iniya Ulavaga innadha kooral  Kani irupa Kai Kavarndhu atru. Meaning: we have many sweet words/ sweet topics to speak, but if you choose to speak in the intention to hurt others, it will be considered like preferring to have bitter fruit to juicy fruit. 2.  எற்றென்று இரங்குவ செய்யற்க செய்வானேல்    மற்றன்ன செய்யாமை நன்று   Yetru Yendru iranguva seiyarka seivaanel,  matranna seiyaamai nandru. One should not do things that will give him sorrows, if he has done, he / she should not be doing the same again.  How sweet! To Err is

The Reach of sisters

Image
The Reach of sisters by Bethany Ash is a short story with not more than 15 pages. Plot: Cassie and  Izzy  are sisters who want to save each other, but from whom and how? Cassie is the older one, believes at her super power in protecting the world and her family, especially her sister from death. Izzy wished her sister's fantasy to be true and so she can be saved from bullying, else to save her from drowning into her imaginary world. The flow of the story is incredible, because it talks about the perspectives of two souls on same thing in few pages. Take away from this book: 1. Being normal is good to everyone, but understanding the abnormality is a must to that special one.  2. When love and bond are the same, there is no space for who is right and who is wrong.  3. Even the insane mind has a determined heart.

How to take current affairs to children?

Image
Summer has come, vacation also has come. No doubt that TV and your smart phone are in the control of your kids. Same as elders, kids are also attracted more to YouTube than TV. We may get tired of those baby shark, wheels on the bus go round and round... PJ masks peppa pigs etc, but not the kids. It is common to have difference of preferences between kids and parents. Sometimes mom can also get adjusted to kids preferences and not all fathers for sure. So, what to watch together? Here is a Tamil show in a you tube channel scripted for children above 5 years, which will be a fun show for elders too. The desire of the team is to initiate the conversation about current affairs between kids and parents. Thus, the show build a knowledge sharing scenario at home. BLACK SHEEP, a YouTube channel with 2.1 M subscribers, is known for creativity and uniqueness, continued to give more political news in various forms of shows. Video memes and appropriate songs in between their c

Wild wind and warm welcome at Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve

Image
Are you tired of GOT fans murmuring "Winter is here"? check out some spring stuff here. Spring with blossomed flowers made it true that winter is over.  Sun shines, flowers blossom, suddenly everything turned out to be colorful around us. Feeling warmth after a cold season resumes our spirit to travel. Enough of sitting back at home and wondering at google photos, now the treat for eyes are open. So, just opened the google maps to know the places of flower fields.  It listed many, but we found only 3 places familiar  1. Malibu creek state park 2. Antelope Valley California Poppy reserve national park( official website ) 3. Carlsbad flower field We chose Antelope Valley first. We started early that day around 7 am. My friends who already visited the place had tempted me with their colorful display pics.  So, I was having too much expectation about the place. To my surprise, not only the place, the road to the park itself was amazing. As known from its name

Websites for Homeschooling

Image
Homeschooling is an art and part of parenting. It is essential for kids and parents to have learning from home too. Parents who are educated and knowledgeable too need certain study plan and respective study materials to teach their kids. Some believe that  Facebook pages and YouTube channels are enough for study materials, which is not true. They are just trailers and we cannot rely them for everything. Also, those social sites are high in distractions.  Parents who are interested in homeschooling and interested to introduce many new subjects apart from their school curriculum should sign up for exclusive educational sites and take part in parenting forums Following are few of the educational sites that I came across. I'm glad to share them with a hope that it will benefit interested parents. Letter to my daughter on the first day of her school

Mithra, Your next phase of life has begun. You are one of the few blessed kids to have pre school education.  You also enjoy the advantages of being a second kid. If u ever get a thought of not getting anything first, when compared to your brother, remember, u get the best. Because, for Udaya many are trial and error, because we choose him anything with the inputs of secondary resources.  For u, we choose with the experiences we acquired from Udaya. This school Valley Montessori is such a choice. We saw with eyes filled with pride of how it has moulded Udaya and gave the best early education. To our surprise his teachers also feel proud of him and exclaim at his performances.  No dear,  don't think that we gonna compare his performance with yours. Just because we give the same to both of u, we don't expect the same from both of u. We know, you both are special in ur own ways. We are proud for what u are, even before joining school.  U have started learning f

What is the change you brought in your family's wedding tradition?

There are many age-old rituals and traditions that we follow during marriages. Do you think that some of them need to be changed? Do you feel that the way we conduct marriages have changed but we still stick to the traditions without understanding the requirement of following them? What do you feel about this subject? Let us discuss. Today I saw a Bengali bride's viral video click here , which touched my heart so deeply. In their wedding tradition, there is a procedure called Kanaganjali. It is to symbolize that the bride repays her debts to parents by performing kanaganjali. She refused to do so telling everyone that debts to her parents cannot be repaid. How true she is! No one can ever repay the debt to their parents. In Tamil wedding too, there is a similar procedure called Kannigathaanam. In this ritual, the parents of the bride, hold the hands of their daughter and give them in the hands of the bridegroom and his parents and says, "We donate our gi

Happy Mother Tongue Language Day

It is good to have the spirit and respect on one's mother tongue language. Importance of mother tongue is not just with the communication, they also carry the history of that part of the people. And that is why languages should not be vanished. When we talk about the prides of one's own mother tongue language, they should be very careful in talking pride about them and not degrading others languages. In Tamil Nadu, language plays a vital role in politics. In recent days, they define the eligibility of people to rule by their mother tongue. I don't want to mention their idea behind it, but I'm worried of few people who criticize other languages and people for political benefits. I just wanted to say, "be proud of what you are, be content with the specialties of your language. Don't try to prove others that your language is the best", when you take such comparisons, you are automatically degrading somebody else's language, which is unnecessary and I

I din't know that I love you so much, until I miss you

Image
I have read many quotes mentioning, "value everything that you have, because you may not know when you will miss it". I realized it in your absence. I feel guilty for not honoring you, I feel guilty for taking you for granted, I feel guilty for not giving you much priority. How can I do so? How can I be that ungrateful to you, when you always helped me and stood supportive. I did not realize that, you are the reason for my peaceful nights and long sleeping hours. I realized it, when I found it difficult to overcome the nightmare of hustle bustle mornings. I could n't start my day without you, and I can't go to bed without thinking of you. I may not appreciated your presence, but remember, my life is not easy without you. It is a late awakening... I openly confess that I can't live without you.  Idly - My savior, I love you so much. Due to inevitable situation, my household items were delayed to reach us. However I managed my breakfast with variet

Content writing about schools

Documenting the information you gather is not just useful to you, it turns out to be a database and helps many others too. After my kids started schooling, child education is something that I really concentrate on. The more I read about it, the more I got to exclaim at. There are varieties of educational model and authorized educational systems to nurture students' talents and many tries to introduce global standards in mix of traditional and digital teaching.  OMG how much the education system has changed from the time of my school days! When I discuss it with other mommy friends, I get to know more about their research on schools for their children. Then I decided to document about the schools and their educational model, facilities, admission process etc. I also publish them in Indiastudychannel.com , an educational website, where I get paid for my content. "Getting paid for your hobby is a blessing... When you are paid for something, the responsibility also increases.&

How to stay young?

Disclaimer: I am not an expert in weight loss or providing guidelines to any nutritious diet. I have not tried and succeeded any experiments on healthy diets. The question after my disclaimer may arise, "Then Why do you write on such topic?" Though we don't follow some routines, we always watch or read about it. For me Home organization, make up routine, healthy diet are few among them. However, everything we watch do not attract us. Many seem to be unrealistic, there is one video which is realistic and follow able. More importantly the person* who gave the tip is reliable. *It is always important that who says matters, much than what is been told. Okay, coming to the tips to stay young... Being young is equally related to your physical and mental fitness. For Physical fitness: 1. Aathichudi - inculcate basics of life to ur kids

Image
There are few things in the world that are very basic and must learn in early childhood itself. I feel, it is  a responsibility of parents to inculcate them in their kids,  as  primary chapters of life learning. I would say Aathichudi by Avvayar is one of such things from Tamil literature. Through Aathichudi,  we can introduce our kids to Tamil as well as life. Aathichudi stories for kids Aathichudi Rhymes ஆத்திசூடியை உலகறியச் செய்வோம்!!!
