Wild wind and warm welcome at Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve

Are you tired of GOT fans murmuring "Winter is here"? check out some spring stuff here. Spring with blossomed flowers made it true that winter is over.  Sun shines, flowers blossom, suddenly everything turned out to be colorful around us. Feeling warmth after a cold season resumes our spirit to travel. Enough of sitting back at home and wondering at google photos, now the treat for eyes are open. So, just opened the google maps to know the places of flower fields.

It listed many, but we found only 3 places familiar
1. Malibu creek state park
2. Antelope Valley California Poppy reserve national park(official website)
3. Carlsbad flower field

We chose Antelope Valley first. We started early that day around 7 am. My friends who already visited the place had tempted me with their colorful display pics.  So, I was having too much expectation about the place. To my surprise, not only the place, the road to the park itself was amazing. As known from its name, the road was through the valley. So, travelling between tall mountains, quick turns, long curves, little ups and downs, greens all around us was like a warm up to see the destination.

We reached the place around 8.30 Am. Park is open from dawn to dusk. Though the winter is over, it is too windy and cold. Yes, because the park is situated on a hill area.  Admission is free. for full day parking, they charge 10$, street parking is also available. No cafeterias, so it is better to take food, snacks and water. Rest rooms are available only near visitor center and in parking area. Visiting center, provides information about the park history and species present in the park. Also the park authorities strictly warns people to stay on trails, because, not only plant species, also other living species like insects, snakes and other reptiles live there.

The park has 3 main varieties of flowers called poppy(red/orange), composite(yellow) and pea(purple). The park laid trails to walk through the park and have a closer view of the bunch of flowers and different view of the colorful park. The length of the trail is mentioned at the beginning of the trail itself, so it is good to choose the trail wisely. Better to understand the trail distance and path through the map. click here to download mapNo pets, no drones.

I got delighted from seeing the land full of different color combination. It is a goose-bump moment to see the flowers nodding their heads so fast in the blowing wind, looked like welcoming each one of us so happily. The green grass looked like flowing river when it went to and fro. My son enjoyed running on trails with his hands open. He completely admired the wild wind blowing on him and pushing him down, however my daughter became sad and dull because of the slapping wind. She wanted me to hold her tight, but after covering her properly with winter clothes and scarves, she too enjoyed the view. Vetri, as always a calm observer, while pushing the kids' stroller enjoyed the view on both the sides of the trail peacefully.

It was a pleasant day.
