A memorable friendship day - Short Story

My attempt for a Friendship Story Contest in ISC Kavya was busy packing lunch for her husband and kid. She heard notification beeps from her mobile. She ignored as usual and continued with her household chores. After she sat back to relax, she laid hold of her mobile. Immediately her face got brighter and eyes twinkled with surprise. It was a mail from Kadhir with some invitation attached to it. Kavya immediately checked the sent list to know whether it is a group invite or independent invite. As expected, it was a group invite. Kavya gave a sigh, "Oh Kadhir, you are still the same" Kadhir and Kavya were college friends. Their roll number were next to each other in sequence. So, they spent lab hours together. Their crazy friends made fun of them for the same. Happy go lucky Kavya did not take it serious, but Kadhir being straight forward and well matured to his age, did not want to encourage such talks. He directly confessed his thoughts to his classmates and Kavya. K...

FAQS to Indians with work permit VISA in USA

People whoever in USA with work VISA will frequently be judged and questioned as follows. When will you return? I see this as a million dollar question, for which we generally don't answer, but give more than 4 options, that are short listed from all possibilities. Our stay in US depends upon VISA duration and project deadline, both of which are like Rajini's entry into politics. "Yepo varum, yepdi varum nu yaarukum theriyadhu",(Vandhalum namba mudiyadhu). Earns Million dollars : We live in a society where many are so judgmental. some people misjudge and  have these thoughts on people in US. They think we earn as same as the count of INR in $. Everyone here dreams for it, but businessmen are not ignorant to do such things. Remember many comes to US to finish their bank loans and live a EMI free life. Of course, Onsite opportunity helps for it. Spends lavish:  True, the cost of living is high when compared to India. We are not an economist, but we know that ...

What makes you a respectable person?

Image
What is respect? Google says "a feeling of deep admiration for someone elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievement." Yes I too see it the same way, "Respect is a feeling of deep admiration". In reality, we see and we show respects without any admiration too. So, respects are of two types. 1. Duplicate respect 2. Honest respect. 1. Duplicate Respect: Some people gets respect because of holding higher power in the name of designation/ wealth. When people are respected for their power, it means they are respected for their temporary abilities. When they lose power, they lose the respect too. Many times, these people pretended to be respected and not really admired. These people are given respect only by words and not much in action. In families, some people demand respect for their superiority in age or relationship with that family, thus many others give them as a ritual to avoid unnecessary agitation at home. 2. Honest respect: People who are...

What will you answer, when your kids ask about Draupadi?

Image
You may think, this is something irrelevant to my blog, but I tell you, this is relevant to my interest. Like many others, Mahabharatham is my fav epic and I started reading and listening to different versions of Mahabharatham from my school days. All the time, my perspectives used to keep changing, and every time, I observe something new in it. Then I realized, it is the nature of art, the beauty of any art lies  in the eyes of viewers. The same way, the quality of a literature elevate with the readers and their understanding ability. When I was 13 years old, I was not a bibliophile(still same), but Mahabharatham made me to sit and finish it in 2 days. That was a pocket size mahabharatham with only 150 pages. But I could remember many characters and also seeded the ability of character analysis in me. As I said, when the years pass by, my views on Mahabharatam characters and incidents also keep changing. We all know that Star Vijay and Sun TV also came up with their versi...

My first attempt on Photo story contest

Image
I write on facts and my own experiences, but creativity is something that I stopped a long back. May be I started to live my life on its flow and I am completely satisfied with whatever happening. Since there is nothing dry, I stopped to dream, expect and imagine anything green.  Then comes a contest to check my creativity.  Photo story contest  to write a story on given photo. It was a guy riding a bicycle. My story is also as simple as the photo. My inspiration to the story is Vetri. He once told me his unfulfilled dream for a cycle and that made me to come up with this plot.  Here is my story  Riding through childhood dreams .  This story got many good reviews and won a 2nd prize ( winners ) in the contest. This is the first story after finishing my school. I could even say, this is my first story too.. because, I no more remember the stories that I had written in my school days.

How did I overcome my loneliness?

I got stuck in a deep loneliness, when I was newly married and flew to US with my husband. It was an arranged marriage, so anyone can understand the time it takes to feel companionship with the partner. Due to geographical change and time constraints, I can't be in touch with my beloved family and friends as before. After my husband left to office, the silence inside and outside house are the same. No known people around me. scrolling the news feed of Facebook, made me feel that everybody in the world are so busy with their lives and I got struck up in an island. Then the fear of missing out has come in me. An idle mind is devil's workshop right. The devil in me made me to think too much and ended up doing nothing but to worry and feel useless. . I wished to engage myself in something interesting. Obviously, that was the time, I was learning cooking. So, I put in some more effort and started exploring in my kitchen and came out with different recipes. I started to take pi...

Why making New year resolution is important?

Image
Happy new year to all in advance.  So far, whatever the new year resolutions I have taken, I almost do it properly. Because I set SMART goals. That is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound. I should actually thank my teacher for helping me in setting up this kind of resolutions. It all started in my 5th standard. I take up very small things as my resolution like, I do home works daily, I improve my handwriting, I learn Thirukural daily, I keep my things organised etc. There were few resolutions I give up also... After few years, I understood that whatever resolution I mention as "I can do"... those I am doing, but whatever the resolution I take to give up or anything to change my habit... I am not fulfilling them.  Like, I won't bite my nails, I will stop drinking aerated juices etc... Then I understood, it is easy to pick up a new habit, but very difficult to give up on one. So, these resolutions really taught me this big lesson and so, ...
