Candy cane lane

Christmas in western countries are not just a day of celebration, it is a season of joy. I was blessed to see their enjoyments in the form of decorations. Most of the people not just decorated inside the house, many has decorated at the front of the house, mainly with lights, Christmas trees and Santa Claus. There are many other houses with themes, cartoon characters and unique decorative items. I found everything attractive.

The surprising and different thing, I found among certain group of people is their unity. Yes, people in same street/ area together made their independent decorations into an event by unity. I happened to see such street decorations in Lubao Avenue and Oxnard Street of Woodlandhills, California.

The home owners in this street collectively decided to decorate their houses for visitors and turns their street into a candy cane lane. This has been followed as a tradition by these street people since 1952. People of Woodland Hills are excited to drive through or walk through this candy cane lane with their twinkling eyes every year and found it to be a part of their Christmas checklist.

What kind of decoration?
Obviously with lights. This is the first time, I ever visited such Christmas decoration in every house of a street. Each has outdone their next house. Lights are part of the each decoration, as it mainly happens in the evening. The basic signs of Christmas, such as Christmas tree, Santa Claus, baby Jesus, Stars, Reindeer of different sizes, colors and materials are found. There are cartoon characters like  Gratel, Hansel and Minions, Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Pooh, Disney princess etc are found exciting and eye catching to kids.

I got stunned seeing an exact Frozen (Disney movie) set up at a house, where the chill breeze made me reminded of northern mountain and Arendelle.

Treat for eyes and camera lens
Many houses left their exterior entrance open, where they placed the decoration figures with lights focusing on it. So, visitors can move closer and take pics with appropriate poses.

When and Where?
Address:
5966 Lubao Ave, Woodland Hills, CA 91367
No exact contact numbers.

Generally, the streets turned out to be a candy cane lane from 2nd week of December through the end of December, every year. Good to go after 6pm

Important note:

1. It is better to walk through the street, if you interested in taking pictures.
2. If you drive through, dim your lights, so that everyone can enjoy the decorative lights. Also keep moving, because it has more traffic.

Also, some houses placed the candy cane lane rules along with their decorations, to have peace in and around the area. Good to follow them
